Elizabeth G Field made an embroidery entitled 'Rebecca at the well', dated 1834. This is slightly odd as she was married in 1831. Women's lib?

4. Will, 10 Aug 1880. 82 The Will of Elizabeth Griffin Field August 10th 1880. Annotation: 'Testatrix was living with Mrs Seyfang when she made this will. Afterwards very soon (?1881) she lived with Mrs Jardine at Spencer Road Herne Hill. In (?) 1888 testatrix went to live with Miss Searle 124 Tulse Hill until her (Testatrix) death.' 'This is my will and bequest to my dear daughter Elizabeth Searle August 10th 1880 Elizabeth Griffin Field of Albert Lodge Peckham Rye I devise and bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth Searle a large broach set with Brilliants ladies companion a picture of needlework. My wearing apparel linin also my Household goods for her use Chintz bed furniture 8 blankets two bolsters also my washhand stand in marble also my portrait with the Books I also give unto my daughter Elizabeth Searle the interest in the Birkbeck Bank and for her use when required if any there I leave her also I appoint my daughter Elizabeth Searle sole executrix at this my will in writing in witness I give my large gold earings small Broach Amastigs (?) a morning ring which I bought in memory of my good father one BrandySnap set with pearls a silver punch ladle My best tea cady punch bowl silver ladle Black jet earings Broach and necklace and mustard spoon Also I give to my daughter Elizabeth Searle at Kinburn a Gold chain for her use after death to my daughter Ellen Seyfang and then to her daughter Ellen Theresa Seyfang six teaspoons which I promised to Ellen Seyfang To my Daughter Polly Tortushel card marks Gold watch key white stone with hair a silver fruit knife writing desk one punch bowl 4 salt spoons prantle (?) snap set with pearls. To my dear Lucy Jardine 1 topas set with pearls I give to my daughter Lucy Alice Jardine Four hundred pounds. I give to my daughter Elizabeth Searle a blue dinner service set of best Tea things edged with gold and the crockery Also a large chest with linnin sheets and Bedding Also I wish my daughter Elizabeth to have the glass and ornaments on the mantlepiece My worktable which my Mother gave me and a small side board chest of drawers in the Bed-room I give my daughter Elizabeth Searle the Residue remaining part of my property This is my will in Witness whereof I have set my hand and seal August 10th 1880 and declared by the said Elizabeth Griffin Searle (etc) ' Witnessed by Isabell Darby, Servant to Mrs Seyfang 11th Sept 1880 Ellen Searle 166 Louise Road Water Lane Stratford Essex Mary Ashby, Servant to Miss Searle, 124 Tulse Hill. On page 2 is a further note by the testatrix: ' Lucy Field died march 24th 1844 the undermentioned articles left by will to be divided between Elizabeth and Lucy Alice Searle at my death \Elizabeth Griffin Field 4 silver candlesticks snuffer and stand silver cruet stand liquor stand silver milk pot shem Half pint mug 2 silver sauce ladles 6 silver desert spoons// 4 tablespoons 2 gravy spoons Gold chain which Lucy has had 2 rings gold scent box jewel box like a book Bible very ancient work table prayerbook bound in red morrocco silver tea pot and stand gold watch 2 pearl earings silver purse Cookery book The above plate named is solid silver Elizabeth Griffin Searle (witnessed)...' And a pencil note by somebody else: ' Mrs Lucy Fields Will is dated 2nd June 1840 & attested by Elizabeth Williams Bridge Bexley & Augustus Cherrys clerk to James .........(unreadable) Will proved at London on 9th April 1844'
Elizabeth married John Searle Jr, son of John Searle Of Mitcham Mills and Alice Eaton Of Bromley, on 15 Sep 1831 in St Giles Camberwell 36,70. (John Searle Jr was born on 5 Jul 1807 in Coulsdon Surrey 45,71, christened on 8 Sep 1807 in Coulsdon Surrey 45, died on 16 Nov 1880 in 26 Extons Road, Lynn, Norfolk 66,72,73 and was buried on 20 Nov 1880.)

Slightly odd fact. The embroidery 'Rebecca at the Well' ascribes itself to Elizabeth G Field 1834, three years after her marriage to John Searle
