General Notes:
Dorothea was a Seyfang through and through, with an intelligence and academic potential which went largely unrealised, as it did with many young women of her day. This, together with a 'chip on her shoulder' - something to do with the family - led to a degree of frustration thoughout her life. As a young woman she had a number of clerical jobs in London and eventually worked as a bank clerk until Bank Policy forced her resignation upon marriage. She had potential as a pianist, and was successful in piano exams to an high grade. She may have taught pianoforte at times; certainly she taught in dame schools and Sunday School. Extremely attractive, Dorothea married comparatively late. She met Dennis on a holdiay to Jersey, marrying a year or so before World War II. She used to say that the war rather spoilt their mariaige by interrupting it almost before they had got going. Marriage appeared to her children as the usual up-and-down thing, but it was undoubtedly more than happy most of the time. Andrew remembers her as a loving caring mother during childhood in Aspley Guise, which the family left in 1951 in favour of Chelmsford, whither Barclays Bank had posted Dennis. She was not at her best in the late fifties and the sixties (the menopause years), and these times were not so happy. Dennis once confided that although she seemd very unstable at that time, she would probably mature into a tranquil old lady, which she did, although she never lost her ability to express her opinions strongly. 101
Dorothea married Dennis Palmer Hudson, son of William Hudson and Emma Palmer, on 15 Oct 1938 in St John The Divine Kennington. (Dennis Palmer Hudson was buried on 17 Jan 1977 in West Hanningfield Road, Gt Baddow, Essex.)
